What is a steroid?
Are the drugs steroids?
Steroids are a very wide variety of medications. Many of these products contain synthetically produced copies of the testosterone molecule and are indistinguishable from the natural that the body produces. Although they are modern medicinal products, they are perceived and understood by modern society. This is largely due to the broad media response of their sporting athletes' performance in sport, and is a cause for wide speculation. It must be understood that the abuse of steroids poses a real risk to health, especially when their use is long-term but also that they are not toxic drugs. From a chemical point of view, anabolic androgenic steroids are mostly organic compounds that contain twenty carbon atoms combined in the form of four braided rings. It is possible to classify them based on their chemical composition. They increase the synthesis of proteins in the cells, leading to accumulation of cellular tissue especially in the muscles.
The use of anabolic steroids leads to the development of secondary sexual signs in men and stimulates the growth of body mass. There are also side effects of taking steroids. Some are: changes in cholesterol levels, acne, high blood pressure, liver damage, hormonal imbalance, testicular atrophy, decreased sperm production, gynecomastia and increased aggressiveness.
How do women's steroids work?
Women with anabolic steroids have the following risks: masculinization, voice compaction, menstrual dysfunction, facial and body hair, atrophy of the mammary gland and depression. There are four forms in which anabolic steroids are produced: pills, injections, creams and skin patches. Oral administration is most convenient, oral testosterone is rapidly absorbed but largely converted to inactive metabolites and only about 1/6 remains in active form. Injection administration of anabolic agents is usually done intramuscularly (hips and shoulders) rather than intravenous. Intravenous injection is likely to cause embolism (blood clot). Muscle or subcutaneous injection of anabolic steroids creates a depot that is slowly absorbed into the bloodstream. Transdermal patches are used to deliver an optimal dose through the skin into the bloodstream. Testosterone-containing gels and creams are used daily but their absorption by the body is minimal.
How are steroids taken?
Anabolics are used in cycles. Several anabolic doses are taken over a period of time, then rest for a while and start again. In order to derive maximum benefit from the use and minimization of the negative effects of steroids, athletes often combine several different types of steroids. Because of their widespread use, there are several forbidden types of anabolic steroids: dehydrotestosterone, boldenone, testosterone, androstenedione. Their use in sport is forbidden because it is considered to be a fraud and is referred to as doping by all major sports organizations.
More on this topic and the understanding of anabolic steroids can be found in the article "Understanding Androgenic Anabolic Steroids".
1. What body weight gain can be expected after the first steroid cycle?
Provided the steroids are properly combined and their dosage is appropriate, the anabolic steroid user can achieve the most significant body weight gain during his first steroid cycle. This is of course very individual, but the average weight gain is about 9-12 kg over a period of about 6-8 weeks. It should be borne in mind that much of this weight gain is due to the body's water retaining, which is part of the side effects of using anabolic steroids. In spite of this fact, the growth of pure muscle mass is certain in the order of 4-6 kg.
2. Gain Weight following the use of anabolic steroids is a permanent or temporary effect?
Yes and no. Steroids can help you achieve two benefits in terms of muscle growth. Using steroids may allow you to reach your genetic limitation on muscle growth faster. If you continue to work actively and eat properly in a proper program, you can be sure to keep the genetic limit reached indefinitely. It all depends on you yourself. At a later stage, steroids can allow you to go beyond the boundaries of your genetic sites. However, it should be noted that extreme physical development can not be sustained in the long term without the continued use of anabolic steroids. Your body will always seek to regain its normal metabolic rate after discontinuing steroid intake.
Steroids constantly alter the physiology of muscles by adding more cell nuclei. With increased core content, each muscle cell can manage its volume more efficiently, allowing for faster growth. Even after a long period of complete abstinence from anabolic steroids, cell nuclei are retained. This is due to the so-called "muscle retention," an effect that will allow you to reach your genetic limit more quickly than if you had never used steroids before. So in this regard, there are lasting benefits besides the temporary increase in the size of the muscles.
3. Can anabolic steroids make me look like a professional bodybuilder?
If you have the important genetic basis for rapid muscle growth YES, it is quite possible, but at the cost of a lot of hard work and commitment. However, you need to assess your genetics and set a real limit for yourself. Many people use steroids to look bigger and more impressive, but very few are the ones who can reach the stage of professional bodybuilding.
4. How dangerous can the cycle be with steroids?
Anabolic androgenic steroids are relatively safe preparations, but of course in the short term of use. Overdose is not possible in general and the appearance of side effects such as changes in cholesterol levels, blood pressure, are unlikely to cause serious bodily injury. However, there are fatal cases caused by the really unreasonable use of anabolic steroids.
These cases are not single, but they are mainly due to ignorance and excessive urgency towards the eventual goal of the users.
Indeed, there are single cases where a user discharges the contents of a steroid container for oral use into a coffee grinder, crushes it in powder, mixes it in yogurt and swallows all the contents at once with the confidence that he will enjoy his new body the next day . Everyone should realize that the path to perfection is very long and patience and motivation in this case are the best allies of the sportsman. If a comparison is to be made - the risk of using anabolic steroids is slightly higher than that of marijuana, but it is far less than the one that hides the use of all illicit drugs.
5. How dangerous can be the long-term use of anabolic steroids?
The use of anabolic steroids outside medical practice may be significantly less unhealthy due to the fact that the prescriptions of such medications for medical purposes and the treatment of diseases point to significantly lower doses of steroid intake than the doses taken in the bodybuilding environments. The main problem with the misuse of anabolic steroids is the increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease. This type of disease develops progressively, but very slowly, for decades, and often without any symptoms. Of course, obesity and smoking pelt far higher risks for the body than the sport.
6. Is it safe to use an anabolic steroid for the career of an athlete?
Non-medical use of anabolic steroids by definition can not be regarded as safe practice. However, it can be argued that anabolic steroids can be used with high relative safety, even for years. The guidelines for reducing harm from the use of steroids are important in reducing health effects. When individually following these guidelines and the athlete is careful with choosing steroids and following a diet low in saturated fat, cholesterol, sugar and refined carbohydrates, actively exercises aerobic exercise and uses dietary supplements to maintain cholesterol levels, the real health risks are small.
7. Which anabolic steroids are the safest for men?
Testosterone, regardless of its form, claims to be the safest anabolic steroid for use in men. When it is moderate (eg 200-400mg solution for injection weekly) there is no serious risk of cardiovascular disease. The use of Boldenone, Nandrolone and Methenolone is also considered to be relatively safe. Restriction in the use of these preparations is recommended for the wide range of oral anabolic steroids.
8. Which anabolic steroids do not origin baldness?
For those who have a genetic disposition to baldness, all anabolic steroids can speed up this process. Its delay as a side effect of the use of anabolic steroids indicates the use of drugs with lower androgenic potential such as Nandrolone (Deca), Oxandrolone (Anavar) or Methanolone (Primobolan). Alternatively, moderate doses of testosterone may be administered with an androgen protector.
9. Which anabolic steroids are the safest for women?
Women should be concerned about the possible virilizing effects caused by the use of anabolic steroids. All anabolic steroids are based on male hormones and as such cause these side effects. At least virilizing are the steroids with the highest relative anabolic to androgenic effect, such as Nandrolone (Deca), Oxandrolone (Anavar) or Methenolone (Primobolan).
10. Do I need to change the types of steroids in a few weeks?
No, it is not necessary. All anabolic steroids work by associating with the 5-alpha reductase receptor and changing the steroid will not change anything. If you develop tolerance to one type of steroid, it will develop with respect to all types of steroids.
11. How likely is it to buy real steroids on the market?
If the content is real, each brand will do the job. It should be noted that over 50% of the distributed anabolic steroids are provided by the black market. One sure advice is to rely on brands you are sure and used and found that they really work for you. Experimenting with different brands carries the risk of getting garage content that is simply of inferior quality.
12. What are the orientation numbers in the profile of any anabolic steroid?
These numbers come from early studies measuring the effect of each steroid on certain muscle groups and tissues on animals, most commonly mice. These numbers are useful for assessing the relative balance between the androgenic and anabolic potential of each steroid in human use.
